IIIS Chair Professor Award Ceremony and Turing Lecture Takes Place

IIIS Chair Professor Award Ceremony and Turing Lecture by Prof. PC Ching took place on November 17. Dean Prof. Andrew Yao, Deputy Dean Prof. Amy Wang together with faculty, graduate and undergraduate students joined the event.

Prof. Yao presented IIIS Chair Professor Award to Prof. Ching at the ceremony. In his remarks, Prof. Ching said it’s a great honor to be invited to Tsinghua University, in particular to IIIS. Tsinghua University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong has a long-standing collaboration in the past few decades. He has been impressed by the enthusiasm and the quality of work of young professors at IIIS. He looks forward to many more opportunities in the years ahead to visit Tsinghua and to have more interactions with professors and students. He hopes being a member of the institute, he’d be given the privilege to talk and mingle with all members in promoting a deeper collaboration between the two institutions as well as in getting collaborated in areas of mutual interests.

Prof. Pak-Chung Ching received the Ph.D. degree from the University of Liverpool, UK and is now Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK. He is also Director, Shun Hing Institute of Advanced Engineering and Professor of Electronic Engineering.

Following the ceremony, Prof. Ching gave a Turing Lecture talk entitled “Evolution of Communication and Computer Technology and Beyond”, in which he examines both the technical and social aspects behind the evolution of communication and computer technology.

In his meeting with Yao Class students, Prof. Ching took questions on CUHK exchange program, research and graduate admission. He also paid a visit to CQI lab, where Prof. Wang introduced the overall interdisciplinary development plan of IIIS while Prof. Luming Duan and Assoc. Prof. Kihwan Kim presented the progress of quantum network project.
