Cloud Computing Trends and Compass Project

Abstract:


In this talk, we will discuss technology trends in cloud computing and its implication in market place. We will then show and tell a Huawei-Tsinghua joint open source project Compass – provisioning and managing a software defined infrastructure.

Short Bio:

 

Haiying Wang joined Huawei in 2010 and is the VP and CTO of Cloud Computing. Haiying has driven Huawei’s Cloud strategy and technology and in recent years he has led Huawei OpenStack cloud effort.

Haiying has over 20 years experience at Silicon Valley. Prior to Huawei, Haiying co-founded and served as CEO of Digital Support Technology, a company focused on delivering an innovative online support service.

From 2003 to 2006, Haiying held a R&D management position at VMware in its early days when VMware engineering grew from 100+ to 1000+. Haiying build Virtual Center team and led the development and release of Virtual Center.

Before VMware, Haiying was an architect for over 7 years as No. 7 employees at Vitria Technology -- a leading business enterprise application integration company (IPO in 1999).

Before Vitria, Haiying worked at SGI as one of key members for developing  and successfully deploying the world first interactive TV system.

Haiying holds a Ph.D in Computer Science from University of Alberta and a MBA from Wharton Business School.
