The Centenary Ceremony of Tsinghua University took place at Great Hall of the People on the morning of April 24, 2011 with the presence of President Hu Jintao, top legislator Wu Bangguo, Premier Wen Jiabao, and other state and Communist Party leaders including Jia Qinglin, Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang. IIIS Dean Prof. Andrew Chi-Chih Yao joins the Ceremony.

Before the Ceremony, Chinese President Hu Jintao and other officials met with representatives from Tsinghua University and took a group photo.
In the interview by Tsinghua students following the Ceremony, Prof. Yao said that President Hu mentions “innovation” for 34 times in his speech and emphasizes on the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents. He hoped that students bear in mind that one should be ambitious and conscientious to follow his or her dream and spares no efforts in the development of Tsinghua University. He also wished Tsinghua a “happy birthday”.
