Making a Splendid Figure

From November 2 to 6, 2009, Zhu Chenguang, student of Pilot CS 60 Class of ITCS joint the ACM 18th Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (CIKM 2009) held at the Asia World-Expo in Hong Kong and presented his paper at the Conference.  

The paper co-authored by Zhu Chenguang, Yao Class student and his colleagues at the Microsoft Asia Research Institute has been accepted as a long paper in CIKM 2009 and it also marks the first time that Zhu Chenguang’s paper has been accepted by an international conference. Zhu Chenguang has made dedicated preparation in order to have a good performance during the session on the afternoon of November 4. Zhu Chenguang was a little bit nervous during his presentation, but he managed to make a splendid figure in showing his talent in scientific research.

Besides the Opening Ceremony and the Invited Talk, Zhu Chenguang also took part in sessions on information retrieval and other areas of his interest, during which he took notes carefully and was very active in asking questions. During coffee breaks, Zhu Chenguang also exchanged ideas with professors and students from all around the world. His identity as an undergraduate student from Yao Class of ITCS at Tsinghua University brought him praises from participants of the world-top conference.

After the presentation, Zhu Chenguang visited the Lantau Island together with other participants in a cable car and enjoyed the great scenery of the blue sea and majestic mountain landscape. Then they went to have dinner at Jumbo Kingdom and enjoyed such traditional Chinese performance as Lion Dance and Sichuan Opera “Changing Face”. Zhu Chenguang felt “very proud” of being a Chinese student.

Zhu Chenguang’s experience at the Conference has exerted a positive role in his personal academic growth. “I will bear on mind the words of teachers and friends at the Conference, and live up to the hope of ITCS as I’ll work hard in doing research and make greater contributions in machine learning,” says Zhu Chenguang in summarizing his HK trip. He is expected to make a greater achievement in the future.
