Quantum simulation of entangled matter with an ion trap quantum computer

Abstract:

Trapped-ion quantum computers provide a pristine one-dimensional spin system, featuring high isolation from the environment, high-fidelity measurement and preparation of individual spins, and fully connected spin-spin interactions. Particularly with simultaneous control over an array of tightly focused individual-addressing laser beams, we can tune the strength and range of spin-spin interactions. We use such a precisely controlled one-dimensional spin system with long-range interaction to prepare quantum phases of matter with true long-range order and topologically protected states based on carefully tailored spin-spin couplings.

Short Bio:

Lei Feng at Fudan University works on quantum simulation and computing using trapped ion. Prior, he worked as a research scientist at Duke Quantum Center, focusing on both room-temperature and cryogenic trapped-ion quantum computing platforms. Prof. Lei Feng got his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Chicago on quantum simulation using ultra-cold neutral atoms.
