Tsinghua Established “Research Center for Theoretical Computer Science” with Two

BEIJING, June 21 (China Education Daily) ——The Tsinghua-MIT-CUHK Research Center for Theoretical Computer Science was inaugurated today at Tsinghua University. Professor Xi Chen, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee and Vice Minister of Education presented at the Ceremony.

President Gu Binglin of Tsinghua University, President Susan Hockfield of MIT and Vice Chancellor Designate Joseph Sung of the Chinese University of Hong Kong unveiled the plaque of the Research Center, which has been co-founded by ITCS at Tsinghua University, the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at MIT (CSAIL), and the Institute of Theoretical Computer Science and Communications (ITCSC) at CUHK.

The Research Center has been founded for the purpose of conducting collaborative scientific research on theoretical computer science with an aim to further promote China’s influence in computer science and push forward its progress through student exchange and cooperation.

In his remarks, Professor Xi Chen believed that the Research Center would provide a great platform for talents and serve as a bond between researchers on computer science at home and abroad. Chinese universities have been encouraged to further promote the cultivation of innovative talents and to build a system that combines domestic and international exchange programs with a special focus on students’ academic spirit, innovative thinking and abilities. The Ministry of Education also encourages them to carry out close cooperation with world-class institutions and nurture a number of top talents, so as to promote China’s comprehensive national power and core competitiveness.
