The Tsinghua-MIT-CUHK Research Center for Theoretical Computer Science was inaugurated at Tsinghua University recently.

The Research Center is the first joint venture of its kind that MIT has established in China. It is also the first established by Tsinghua University with a top American university in the field of theoretical computer science. The three universities will join efforts in nurturing talents while sharing research materials.

Theoretical computer science is the foundation of computer science, the field in which Tsinghua University, MIT and CUHK all enjoy distinctive advantages. At its initial stage, the Research Center is based on the theory of computation. And this will gradually expand to include various other research areas in the field of computer science, such as computational biology and machine learning.

The Research Center involves student exchange programs, faculty exchange and joint international projects. Joint research groups made up of six students, with two undergraduates and two graduate students from each side will be set up and carry out research activities in Tsinghua, MIT and CUHK under the supervision of various scholars.
