Tsinghua University Special Pilot CS Class to Hong Kong for Winter School in Jan

Tsinghua University Special Pilot CS Class is composed of talented students with excellent academic performance. All juniors of the Class enjoy the opportunity to pay academic visit to Hong Kong. In 2008, The Pilot Class of Year 2005 was sent by ITCS to HK for winter school organized by Institute of Theoretical Computer Science and CommunicationsITCSCof the Chinese University of Hong Kong .   

The 32 students arrived in HK on Jan. 21, and settled in Regal Riverside Hotel. There were altogether 80 students for this winter school, all of whom from top universities in Beijing, Zhejiang, Shanghai, HK, Taiwan and India.

During the four days of lectures, students enjoyed the services of shuttle buses and great dinners. After the lectures, they had a good relax—the last day was for sightseeing!

The 20 lectures covered a broad range of research areas—network, communications, algorithmic complexity, linear algebra, and game theory, etc, in which the professors explained profound theories in simple terms. The Pilot Class gained a better understanding of the basic concepts and theories, and they found the interaction with students from other universities beneficial and stimulating.

The location on a hill made the layout of CUHK special and enjoyable. When you ramble on the campus, what embraced you were green vegetation and fresh air, and, democratic, open, and liberal atmosphere.

For many of the students, it was their first trip to HK. By the time of leaving, all of them were in love with the city, a place giving them knowledge and fun.

The winter school promoted the collaboration between ITCS and ITCSC, exposed the pilot class students in more research developments, and gave them both knowledge and aspiration. It was also a platform for the young talents to present themselves to the world.
