The 23 students of Tsinghua University Special Pilot CS Class of Year 2004 made an academic visit to the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the University of Hong Kong (HKU), and City University of Hong Kong (City U), which lasted from Jan. 7 to 12, 2008.
The Pilot Class was impressed by the international atmosphere, curriculum arrangements, and academic achievements of the three universities. They had a great time with brilliant lectures, campus tours, and active idea-sharing with HK students.

At CUHK, professors from Department of Computer Science and Engineering gave an excellent talk to ITCS students, explaining their research fields and achievements. Then the Pilot Class visited the science park, the multi-media labs, and had discussions with CUHK graduate students.

HKU is a university with a long history, among the world top flight in many aspects. The major activity of the Pilot Class there was attending lectures. They found most of the seven lectures they had there were very relevant to the current issues of society. After the lectures, the campus ambassadors showed ITCS students round the university. HKU won the hearts of the students with its rich cultural heritage.

Despite its moderate size, City U was well equipped with modern infrastructure. ITCS students attended lectures and visited labs there. They were especially impressed by a project involving psychology, which was a perfect example of technology changing people’s life. They thought the application-oriented research in City U wonderfully stimulating.

The trip to Hong Kong was successful and nourishing. The students said they benefited a great deal learning about the unique research output of the three universities, and felt gratitude for ITCS, and Prof. Yao in particular, for giving them such a good opportunity to have academic research exchange.
