Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong paid an inspection visit to Tsinghua University on the morning of April 2, 2009.

In the Reception Hall of the main building, Liu first listened to the work report of Tsinghua University, and then made an important speech, in which she said that, Tsinghua University should speed up in building a world-class university by seizing the opportunity of its Centennial.

After the meeting, Liu met with Prof. Andrew Chi-Chih Yao, director of Institute for Theoretical Computer Science (ITCS), Tsinghua University. On behalf of the government, she expressed gratitude to Prof.Yao for his coming back from overseas, his great contributions to the development in the field of computer science and the cultivation of highly-innovative CS talents.

Prof. Andrew Yao founded the Special Pilot CS Class (formerly Microsoft Special Pilot CS Class, and known as “Yao class”), which aims to cultivate the most potential CS talents. The pedagogical concept and achievements of “Yao class” are highly acknowledged and supported by leaders of China and Ministry of Education. During this meeting, Liu highlighted the importance of cultivating top CS talents in Tsinghua, and expressed her best wishes for the development of ITCS.
