Tsinghua Xuetang Special Pilot CS Class (Yao Class) welcomed Grade 2011 students as freshmen registered on August 17. The enrollment among freshmen from other departments also took place.

At its booth to the west of Tsinghua Comprehensive Stadium, Yao Class attracted a lot of attention. Twenty students who have already been admitted as Yao Class freshmen among participants of the IMO Winter Camp, Tsinghua Independent Enrolment and top students in College Entrance Exam registered at the booth. Meanwhile, freshmen from Department of Computer Science and Technology, Department of Electronic Engineering, School of Life Sciences and other departments submitted their Yao Class program application forms.

Prof. Amy Wang, Deputy Dean of IIIS and Yao Class Director met with freshmen parents and took their questions on Yao Class program. Tsinghua President Prof. Binglin Gu also showed up at the booth and praised the efforts in welcoming new students.

In the evening, the “Yao Class Enrollment Talk 2011” took place at the Lecture Hall of FIT Building. In her presentation, Prof. Amy Wang introduced various features of Yao Class program. She said that the research of computer science represents the “root” of computer and Yao Class aims to nurture promising undergraduate students within the innovative model and an extensive international teaching program. CC Yao Professor Luming Duan and Assis. Profs. Richard Southwell, Periklis Papakonstantinou, Iddo Tzameret and Jian Li introduced Yao Class and its curriculum while encouraging talented freshmen to join Yao Class. They also took questions from applicants about courses and career opportunities.

After the entrance exam and interviews, the enrolment result will be notified by Tsinghua Admission Office on August 20.
