From January 15 to 21, 2009, 26 students of Tsinghua Microsoft Special Pilot CS Class 60 joined ITCSC Winter School 2009 in the Chinese University of Hong Kong by the arrangement of ITCSC. After three hours’ flight, they landed in Shenzhen, crossed the Lo Wu border, and got to Regal River Side Hotel in Hong Kong. The Institute of Theoretical Computer Science and Communications (ITCSC) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong arranged this Winter School successfully. Students who were invited to this Winter School come from many famous universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan) and Madras University (India).

The Winter School arranged eight lectures which lasted four days, and the first lecture was given by Professor Yao.
Prof. Yao Was Giving A Lecture
The eight lectures cover a wide range of topITCS, including Internet, communications, algorithms, linear algebra, game theory and so on. Professors explained the profound theories with simple language, which enlarges the vision of the students. Through these lecture students were able to learn some basic concepts and theories, and they gained a lot from exchanging academic ideas with students from other universities.
Discussion After Class
The Chinese University of Hong Kong is located on a mountain strewn gracefully with buildings. It is a wonderful place for study with its green mountain, clear water and fresh air. One can smell the atmosphere of democracy, openness and freedom in the campus. After the lectures, the Chinese University of Hong Kong hosted a wonderful dinner party for the students.

Most of the students came to Hong Kong for the first time, and they were attracted by the comfortable environment, alluring shopping malls and beautiful scenery there. When they finished their study and discussion, they could relax themselves and enjoy a sightseeing tour.

The Hong Kong tour was a wonderful experience for the students and a great success for the host. The goal of this Winter School was to attract talented students, cultivate world-famous young scientists, promote the communication between researches in different countries, and strengthen the collaboration between regional research institutes.
