At 10:00 on May 8 of 2009, the faculty, students, and visitors of Institute for Theoretical Computer Science (ITCS) gathered at Rm 4-603 of FIT building to welcome a distinguished guest - Mr. Jack Liu from Qiu Shi Science & Technologies Foundation. 

Mr. Liu and Qiu Shi Science & Technologies Foundation, a good friend and a good partner of ITCS, have always been supporting the development of the Institute. All members welcomed Mr. Liu with warm applause. Then Prof. Andrew Yao gave a presentation about the milestones in ITCS development.

Prof. Yao briefed Mr. Liu and other visitors about ITCS personnel structure, research group, graduate and undergraduate student programs, and long-term blueprint. He also mentioned his "China Computer Science 2020" - a plan to build a first-rate research base for computer science in China by 2020. Prof. Yao had reported this plan to Premier Wen Jiabao, when the Premier visited Tsinghua University and met Prof. Yao on May 3.

Building on these achievements and vision, ITCS will strive to join the ranks of world-class research institutes. In his presentation, Prof. Yao showed a picture of him taken five years ago, and said half-jokingly, "many people ask what I have been doing in the past five years, and the difference between this picture and me is self-evident." Much of the growth of ITCS is indeed attributable to Prof. Yao.

After Prof. Yao’s introduction, Mr. Liu expressed his delight to see the vigorous development of the Institute. Qiu Shi Foundation highly commended ITCS'commitment and Prof. Yao’s devotion, and would continue to take interest in and give support to the Institute to realize its vision.
