On 12st November, Professor Krishna V. Palem and Professor Levy Gene from Rice University came to visit ITCS, Tsinghua University, and had deep discussion with Academician Andrew Yao and Associate Professor Yuexuan Wang, on the cooperation project.
Professor Yao first gave a short introduction of ITCS, laying emphasis on both parties cooperation expectations and understanding of the cooperation focus. Prof. Yao especially pointed out the advantages ITCS has in simplifying cooperation procedures, such as funding and government formality, which are common difficulties for this kind of cooperation in China. By reducing the cooperation risk, both sides can focus more on the specific cooperation processing. Besides, the Chinese government values the development of theoretical computer science and the official support will guarantee this cooperation. During the talk, both parties reached an agreement on establishing concrete cooperative relations.
Prof.Yao also introduced a new project of ITCS: Quantum Internet Platform: 20-Year Roadmap, which has recently won the “Long-term Development Strategy of China Engineering Science and Technology Research Project of NSFC” competition. Professors from Rice University expressed their congratulations on the good news.
On the ITCS group meeting in the afternoon, Professor Krishna V. Palem gave a short speech, explicating his research interests and cooperation thoughts.
Ever since the establishment, ITCS has paid great attention to providing international exchange and cooperation opportunities for students. This September, ITCS has held discussion with MIT on establishing cooperative research center.
