New Opportunity, New Effort

On the afternoon of 12th November, Academician Andrew Yao chaired the ITCS group meeting of autumn semester in Room 4-603, FIT Building. Professor Yuexuan Wang, Professor Xiaoming Sun, postdoctoral researchers, visitors, ITCS graduate students and the staff attended this meeting.

Professor Yao first introduced visiting scholar from Rice University and visiting students from Hong Kong. All ITCS members showed warm welcome and gave respective self-introduction to the visitors. Then Professor Krishna V. Palem from Rice University gave a short speech, explicating his research interests and the thoughts of establishing cooperation project with ICTS. Professor Yao viewed that his research field will grow in China and showed his expectation for this cooperation. Ever since the establishment, ITCS has paid great attention to providing international exchange and cooperation opportunities for students.

Next, Professor Yao discussed with the postdoctoral researchers about the update of their research seminars. He then announced a new project of ITCS: Quantum Internet Platform: 20-Year Roadmap, which has recently won the “Long-term Development Strategy of China Engineering Science and Technology Research Project of NSFC” competition. All the ITCS members were much heartened by the good news and applause broke out and lasted for a long time. Professor Yao believed that this is a high-end project and there will be new opportunities for ITCS.

Professor Yao discussed with postdoctoral researchers

During the meeting, Professor Yao also declared a 4-week course plan for “complexity theory”, which will be taught by postdoctoral researchers Victor Chen and Kevin Matulef next semester. This was well welcomed by the students. “The course plan will help students get to the heart of complexity theory.”

The meeting ended in an inspiring atmosphere. With the new project, come new opportunities. All members will make more efforts to promote further development for ITCS.
