Abstract:

Data center networks (DCNs) form the backbone infrastructure of many large-scale enterprise applications as well as emerging cloud computing providers. Software defined optical data center networks (DCNs) have become increasingly popular recently due to their technological strengths compared with traditional electrical networks. Leveraging runtime reconfigurable optical devices, a software defined optical DCN dynamically changes its topology and link capacities, thereby achieving unprecedented flexibility to adapt to dynamic traffic patterns. In this talk, we offer a systematic view of the theoretical foundation of software defined optical DCN, including problem formulation, core algorithms, and design considerations. We will also present some simulation and experimental results of Sodero PS03200, the industry first software defined all optical DCN switching fabric.
