On Jan. 25, 2015, 35 students from Yao Class 2012, IIIS, Tsinghua University arrived at Hong Kong and began their five-day academic visit at ITCSC-INC 2015 Winter School. The activity has attracted dozens of outstanding students from prestigious universities around the world.
Academician Andrew Chi-Chih YAO, Distinguished Professor-at-large of CUHK attended the opening ceremony on the morning of Jan. 26 and extended his warm welcome to all the students participated. In his opening remarks, he explained that the purpose of higher education is to find out what you like and what you’re able to do by retelling the story about Turing, and encouraged the students to grasp the opportunity to enjoy life.
During the following three days, the students were exposed to three distinguished academic lectures by three renowned scholars from CUHK, Prof. Andrej Bogdanov, Prof. Pascal Vontobel and Prof. Shengyu Zhang. The splendid lectures inspired the students with new patterns of thinking and aroused students’ aspiration to think more, to share more and to obtain more experience in different areas.
The last day was a one-day tour in Hong Kong. Students talked and laughed, enjoying the culture and the beautiful scenery of Hong Kong.
Ever since the foundation of Yao Class, junior students participating in Hong Kong Winter School for academic exchange has already become an important part in its talent-cultivating mode. Up until now, about 280 students have attended the Winter School. The Winter School serves not only as an opportunity for students to feel the academic atmosphere of CUHK, but also as a platform for students from world renowned universities to exchange ideas with each other.
