A commemorative plaque was unveiled to mark the opening of Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Core Technology, in Xi’an Hi-tech Industries Development Zone on October 24. The ceremony was part of a two-day event, The 2nd Global Programmers' Festival, where Prof. Andrew Yao was also invited to give a keynote speech “The Advent of Quantum Computing”.

After the unveiling ceremony, Prof. Andrew Yao introduced the recent progress and hoped that the institute would be home to the most powerful AI grouping in Xi’an to help advance development of local AI industry. The institute now hosts three centers which are Frontier Architecture and Smart Chip Research Center, FinTech Research Center, and City Brain Research Center, situated in the Software Science Park where Prof. Yao paid a visit later that day.

Since the formal launch of the Institute, Tsinghua University and Xi’an Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone Committee have been working closely to ensure the establishment of the institute and enable the institute to start its work and research in the field of AI. It’s learned that the Institute will co-organize an International Workshop on Blockchain from December 10-14.
