The high penetration of renewable energies contributes to a sustainable energy future. However, it also brings huge uncertainties, which challenge the reliable operation of power systems. To better design the control framework for power systems with uncertainties, the theme of my research is to utilize pervasive intelligent resources to improve the system performance, e.g., cost effectiveness, reliability, and robustness. More specifically, my research goal is to develop methodologies to:

1) understand how information and financial interactions promote the performance of power systems;
2) rigorously study the electricity markets from their structural and parametric descriptions.

Many of such fundamental analyses seem counterintuitive in light of commonly held beliefs. For example,

Does centralized control always guarantee the best performance?
Is the current design of electricity market really competitive?
Are renewable energies really free?
Is the electric vehicle a challenge or an opportunity to the system?

Inherent in these questions is my pursuit of the most reliable and effective design for the future energy sector.
