May 16, Tsinghua President Jining Chen met with IIIS Foreign faculty Dr. Giulio Chiribella and Dr. Stefan Filipp. IIIS Dean Prof. Andrew Chi-Chih Yao, Deputy Dean Prof. Amy Yuexuan Wang and CC Yao Professor Luming Duan joined the meeting.

President Chen asked about the life of Dr. Giulio Chiribella and Dr. Stefan Filipp at Beijing and welcomed them to join Tsinghua. He said that Prof. Yao has been leading a great team at Tsinghua and hoped the dynamic and diversified campus would bring passion to top scientists working here.

Dr. Giulio Chiribella is from Italy. He got his PhD degree in Physics from the University of Pavia in 2007. His research areas are Quantum Information, Foundations of Quantum Mechanics and Mathematical Physics. Dr. Chiribella’s research on group theoretical methods for Quantum Estimation Theory was awarded the Hermann Weyl Prize at the 28th International Colloquium on Group Theoretical Methods in Physics, Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, July 2010.

Dr. Stefan Filipp is from Austria.
In 2006 he received his Ph.D. degree in physics from the Vienna University of Technology, Austria. For his thesis work he was awarded the Victor-Hess Award of the Austrian Physical Society. His research included the realization of schemes for the measurement, preparation and characterization of entangled states as basis for high-fidelity quantum algorithms with superconducting qubits, but also experiments relating to the field of quantum optics.
