The interview of 2016 Tsinghua Top Talent Scholarship for Undergraduates took place at Lecture Hall in Main Building, Tsinghua University, November 10, 2016. After competitive selection, 15 shortlisted candidates attended the interview and 10 students in total were recognized in this year's awards, including CHEN Lijie from Yao Class.

In the interview, CHEN Lijie best showed his passion for theoretical computer science with exceptional academic performances: publishing papers at top conferences like AAMASCOLT and ISAAC as the first author, solving an open problem proposed by Prof. John Watrous in 2002, and winning a gold medal in International Olympiad in Informatics. Besides, he also enjoyed a high profile in popular social media such as Zhihu. As Prof. Jian Li said, “CHEN Lijie has already demonstrated his intellectual potentials to be a high achiever in his academic studies.”

Tsinghua Top Talent Scholarship, launched in 1989, is considered to be the most prestigious prize for outstanding Tsinghua students. CHEN Lijie is the fourth student from Yao Class who has received the prize since its establishment, and the others are GE Rong (2007), JIA Zhihao (2012), and WU Jiajun (2013).
