A signing ceremony was held in Xi’an Hi-tech Industries Development Zone on August 26 to launch a new Institute for Core Technologies in Interdisciplinary Information jointly established by Tsinghua University and China Xi’an Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone Committee. The ceremony was attended by a number of officials, including Tsinghua Vice President, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering YOU Zheng, IIIS Dan, Turing Award Winner, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences Andrew Chi-Chih Yao, and member of the standing committee of Shanxi Provincial Committee, Xi’an Municipal Party Chief WANG Yongkang, and others from Tsinghua Holdings, Office of Technology Licensing of Tsinghua University, and Xi’an Municipal Government. ZHONG Hongjiang, Standing Member of Communist Party of China Xi’an Municipal Committee and Secretary of Communist Party of China Xi’an Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone Committee, hosted the ceremony.
The establishment of the institute in Xi’an expands and deepens the links of Tsinghua University with local governments. It’s hoped that the institute will act as a local initiative for advancing development of AI industry in Xi’an by bringing together IIIS experts and researchers from a range of fields, such as Computer architecture and systems, AI chip design and Fintech. It is also offering support for research commercialisation with the aims of sharing good practice across the industrial and regional partnerships, and helping deliver the government's industrial strategy priorities to grow the economy.
