IIIS Holds Research Festival 2019 and THU 583rd Doctoral Academic Forum

IIIS Research Festival 2019, together with THU 583rd Doctoral Academic Forum, kicked off on Dec. 24, in the 2nd-floor lobby of FIT Building. Prof. Andrew Chi-Chih Yao, Dean of IIIS, attended and addressed at the opening ceremony. Prof. Frances Foong Yao, Prof. Luming Duan, and faculty members and students from various research groups of IIIS participated in the festival. The opening ceremony was hosted by Prof. Yang Yu.

In his speech, Prof. Yao mentioned that Information Technology was the leading force to promote economic and social developments. In the year of 2019, IIIS made remarkable achievements in quantum, algorithm, chip experiments and other interdisciplinary fields. Prof. Yao encouraged all IIIS members to strive for more achievements in the coming New Year.

This was the 5th IIIS Research Festival and it is the very first time that IIIS Research Festival was jointly held with Doctoral Academic Forum. This one-week-long festival included invited lectures, poster presentation, open group meetings and etc. A total of 62 academic posters were presented, covering quantum information, quantum computing, algorithm design, distributed systems, machine learning and in-depth learning, network science, mechanism design, computational biology, computational economics and etc. On the morning of 24th, four PhD candidates were invited to give academic talks. Prof. Mengdi Wang and Dr. Chris Maddison from Princeton University also gave talks during the festival.

IIIS Research Festival 2019 has set up a scientific research platform for teachers and students to exchange ideas and promoted innovative research. Over 100 teachers and students participated in the annual festival.
