Turing Forum of 3 Institutes Kicked off

On 6thand 7th January, the Institute for Interdisciplinary InformationSciences (IIIS) hosted Turing Forum of 3 Institutes at Tsinghua University, co-organized with Peking University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The forum was opened by Prof. Andrew Chi-Chih Yao, Turing Award Winner, CAS Academician and IIIS Dean, who welcomed the participants and highlighted therole of this joint forum in creating a platform across these three universities for researchers to share expertise in information sciences. Following the opening address by Prof. Yao, Prof. John Hopcroft, Turing Award Winner, CAS Foreign Academician, and IBM Professor of Cornell University, was invited to address at the opening and gave the first keynote talk of the day to discuss AI and deep learning.

Highlights of the forum also included two other keynote talks from Prof. Andrew Yao, Prof. Wen Gao, CAE Academician, and Boya Chair Professor at Peking University, and two plenary talks from Prof. Luming Duan, CC Yao Professor, and the ChairProfessor on Fundamental Sciences at Tsinghua University, Prof. Xiaotie Deng, Chair Professor at Peking University. The afternoon parallel sessions saw further scientific talks heard from a wide array of leading scholars from these three universities on a variety of topics on AI, data science, theoretical computation, quantum information, systems & architecture, and networking.

This year's forum brought together over 70 attendees and 37 speakers mostly coming from Tsinghua University, Peking University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It is hoped that the forum will offer to researchers across these three universities the opportunity to meet and get an insight into others’ work and start collaborations. Last year, it was held in Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
