In this talk, I will introduce the progress on the investigation and the modulation of the optical properties, especially Raman and photoluminesence, of 2D semiconductors. The effects of defects and local strain are probed, and heterostructures are built up through the van der Waals stacking. Our results show the easy modulation of 2D semiconductors due to their ultrathin nature, and the potential engineering of 2D semiconductors by diverse ways.

Prof. Kai Liu received his PhD in Physics from Tsinghua University in 2008, and did his postdoctoral research in Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and University of California, Berkeley. He joined the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the Tsinghua University as a faculty member in 2015. Prof. Liu’s research interest revolves in probing mechanical properties and applications of 1D nanotubes, 2D nanosheets, and functional oxides. He has published more than 40 peer-reviewed papers in top journals including Nat. Commun., Nano Lett., Adv. Mater., etc., with a total citation time of ~1600 (Google Scholar). He was awarded ‘China Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award’ in 2010 and ‘Youth 1000 Talent Scholar’ in 2014.
